Cory

Visiting His Field of Dreams

Visiting His Field of Dreams

Nine year-old Cory Wagner, of Rantoul loves baseball and riding his bike. His favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals - he is a huge fan! A shy and smart boy, Cory loves to read, especially if he's reading Harry Potter books. He's a great listener, and he loves the color blue.

Diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer of the connective tissue,  in December of 2010, Cory is working through the effects of his illness and chemo treatments, which sap his energy.  Thanks to Make-A-Wish Illinois he was granted his wish to go to the St. Louis Cardinals spring training in Jupiter, Florida.

Along with his family, Cory travelled to Florida for a few days filled with sunshine and baseball. He was able to meet several players such as catcher Yadier Molina, pitcher Chris Carpenter (pictured left with Cory and his sister Mallory), first baseman Lance Berkman, and third baseman/power hitter David Freese.  The wish was an exciting time filled with special memories that will surely help inspire Cory as he continues treatment for his illness. Each time he looks at the many photos his family took during the trip, he can remember the joy of a dream come true.

More than 10,000 children have been granted a wish by Make-A-Wish Illinois. InfoSpot
